The Hotel Abanico is a sunny three-star spot with a unique location just east of the fun Plaza de Alfalfa and a few doors down from a fresh produce market.

Color abounds in the hotel’s 22 guestrooms, which are equipped with air conditioning, a flat-screen TV and telephone. Rooms are and painted in muted pinks, blues and greens and decorated with matching bedspreads and curtains and Andalusian tiles. The private bathrooms are equipped with both tub and shower, plus unexpectedly snazzy toiletry kits.

The spacious lobby has vaulted ceilings, tiled walls and wicker furniture. A continental breakfast, available for an additional charge, is served in the breakfast room, which is also adorned with no shortage of tiling. And for that evening snack (and sangria), don’t miss Alfalfa, the excellent tapas bar across the street.

The Hotel Abanico is operated by the same friendly folks who run other EuroCheapo faves, the B&B Naranjo near Plaza Nueva and the Hotel Abril near Plaza de la Encarnacion.

The hotel offers a free Internet station, and complimentary Wi-Fi is available.

Centro is, not surprisingly, Seville's hub, anchored by Plazas San Francisco and Nueva. There are Shopping streets, churches, museums, restaurants, cafés and boutiques aplenty here. Another highlight is the Museo de Bellas Artes—or Fine Arts Museum—with its outstanding collection of works by Murillo, Valdés Leal, Zurbarán and other Sevillean masters.

For visitors who must be the center of the action, El Centro is the place to be. Note, though, that because it's so in demand it's also not cheap. Hotels, hostals and restaurants are all a bit more expensive in El Centro. Other hallmarks: loud cathedral bells, an absence of Internet cafés, and the obligatory Starbucks.
