The LSE Bankside House is a London School of Economics dormitory, one of several open to the general public during summer months. All are well-priced for London, and all are good places for budget-conscious visitors.

The LSE Bankside House’s whopping 560 rooms are available in single, double, triple, and quad configurations. All standard dorm issue. Think basic twin beds and utilitarian furnishings (desk, bedside table, shelving...). The blue plaid bedding and curtains are slightly dated but clean.

Amenities at the LSE Bankside House are few and far between. Rooms have a telephone, coffee/tea maker, and fan (upon request). They are not equipped with a TV, but you will be able to catch some BBC and Sky Sports in the television lounge.

Most LSE Bankside House rooms have private bathrooms while super-Cheapo singles share facilities. Like the rooms, bathrooms are simple yet clean. Towels and basic toiletries are provided. (Hair dryers are not.)

The ground-floor bar/TV lounge has plenty of tables, a handful of couches, and a pool table. The LSE Bankside House also offers a game room to rival your local arcade, as well as a good-sized laundry room.

Breakfast is included in the nightly rate. Wi-Fi is available throughout the building, and parking is quite affordable. The LSE Bankside House also has two Internet stations (although there can sometimes be a wait for these). Reception is open from 7 am until 11 am daily, and security staff is on hand outside those times.

Other London School of Economics summer bed-and-breakfast accommodation sites include Carr-Saunders Hall in Bloomsbury, High Holborn Residence in Covent Garden, Passfield Hall (near Euston Station) and Rosebery Hall in Clerkenwell. Winter travelers should note that Carr-Saunders Hall, Passfield Hall, and Rosebery Hall are also available in the weeks around Christmas. Location

The LSE Bankside House boasts an enviable location within blocks of the Tate Modern and the Globe. Plus, just stroll across the river and you can easily reach St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower Bridge and the London Eye.

South of the Thames, this area has become a dynamic and exciting hub of activity. It contains Borough Market, a pavilion of good food, and the Tate Modern, which takes up space in a massive, renovated power station.

This is not, all this considered, a neighborhood with many hotels, but there are a few good options around. The ‘hood is connected to the City of London by the pedestrian Millennium Bridge. It’s adjacent to the Bermondsey, a very hip area with lots of nice restaurants and watering holes.
