"Expect the unexpected" is how Marjan Degraeve and her husband Karel describe their unique and arty B&B, located 10-15 minutes south of Markt Square, along the Kazerneuest. The B&B offers two jaw-dropping rooms packed with dolls, mannequins and installation art. Each room is generously stocked with beer from the couple’s own brewery.

Along the staircase, you encounter the "Illuseum," their doll-intensive public art space. We’re talking about dolls dating back to the early 20th century, in various forms, positions and parts. An open cabinet displays doll bodies, heads and legs, while a nearby Disney-inspired scene presents Snow White and many of her dwarfs. Various lighting effects are employed.

The elaborate motif continues into the two guest rooms. Décor aside, the two rooms are spacious and share a toilet and shower. They are both equipped with sinks, a coffee/tea maker and a fridge stocked with their own microbrew (the first bottle is free). Both also feature substantial wooden furnishings—including beds, dressers, tables and chairs—that are flea-market finds. One bedroom also displays a mannequin in a ball gown, while the other lets you sit down and relax in a row of old theater seats.

The glittering shared toilet, nicknamed "Buckingham Palace," plays classical music when you turn on the light. Not to be outdone, the shower has a tune of its own.

Note: The B&B Degraeve charges an extra €10 for single-night stays.
