Brigitte Lenglachner

Brigitte Lenglachner's father built this house with his own two hands, and now Brigitte and her husband run it as a private five-room guesthouse.

Although suburban Lehen is a 10-minute bus ride from the Altstadt, Brigitte's place is worth the trip. The rooms are a bargain, and this is an authentic Austrian country house. On top of it all, Brigitte and her husband are one of the loveliest, most generous couples we've met in our travels!

But it wasn't just Brigitte's warm welcome and sense of hospitality that won us over—the rooms themselves were impressive, with more amenities than you'd expect at a small pension. Though there's only one room with a private bathroom, all rooms have satellite TV, a coffee maker, a sink and a hair dryer. Two rooms with balconies are available (and cost a little extra).

The rooms' marshmallow-plump comforters, printed wallpaper and quilted cushions make things cozy and cheerful. Brigitte also rents a more modern apartment around the corner, which can sleep up to five people. All rooms are non-smoking.

Lifelong Salzburgers, Brigitte and her husband can fill you in on city lore, point you to the right restaurants and book tickets. When it's warm outside, breakfast is served in a garden in the back.
