Tourist Office

We always recommend stopping by a tourist office as soon as possible, and Munich is no exception to the rule.

The Munich Tourist Office operates two Tourist Information offices in convenient tourist locations. The Munich Tourist Office can be reached online.

A Tourist Information office is located at the Hauptbahnhof (Main Train Station) at Bahnhofsplatz 2. It is open from 9:00 a.m. until 8 p.m. (Monday through Saturday) and from 10:00 a.m. through 6:00 p.m. (Sundays). The second Tourist Information office is located at Marienplatz in the Neues Rathaus (New City Hall). It is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Free Sights

On Sunday, many museums in Munich, including the Neue Pinakothek and the Glyptothek, offer reduced admission.

Strolling Marienplatz, the Viktualienmarkt, and the rest of Stadtmitte is a free and entertaining way to spend your time in Munich.

Senior Discounts

Senior discounts exist in Munich. However, to obtain some discounts, membership in a particular association may be required. Members of the AARP get discounts on hotels, airfares and car rentals. They can be reached in the United States at 1-888-687-2277 or online.

Students Discounts

Student discounts in Munich offer significant discounts at several museums. In order to take advantage of such discounts, you will need to have a student identification card. The International Student Identity Card, ISIC, the most widely accepted form of student ID, provides discounts on sights, accommodations, food and transportation. Some places offer admission discounts of 20% to 50% to ISIC members. All cardholders have access to a 24-hour emergency helpline. In the United States call 1-800-223-7986 or click onto the ISIC site. Applicants must be degree seekers of a secondary or post-secondary school and must be at least 12 years of age. The card costs US$22 and is valid until the end of the year issued. For non-students 25 years of younger, the International Youth Travel card, IYTC, also offers many of the same benefits as the ISIC. The card costs US$22 and is valid for one year from the date issue.

Travelers with student cards, such as ISIC and IYTC qualify for big discounts from travel agencies. Most flights from budget agencies are on major airlines, but in peak season some may sell seats on less reliable chartered flights.
