Cheap hotels near Central Park in New York, United States

By far New York City’s most famous park, Central Park was designed by landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted and his partner Calvert Vaux. The park took decades to create and landscape and was officially opened in 1873.

Central Park is massive, spanning 51 blocks from 59th Street (Columbus Circle) to 110th Street, and three avenues wide, from Central Park West to Fifth Avenue.

The park’s highlights are many, and include the Central Park Zoo, Belvedere Castle, Strawberry Fields (a memorial to John Lennon), a host of sculptures and fountains, a reservoir (popular with joggers), playgrounds, bridges, ball fields and much more.

The park hosts a variety of activities from ice skating in winter to outdoor performances in the summer, including a free “Shakespeare in the Park” series well worth lining up for. Visit the Central Park’s Web site for information about the park's many activities.
