Cheap hotels near Circus Maximus in Rome, Italy
Situated in an expansive valley between Rome’s Aventine and Palatine Hills, the Circus Maximus was once an ancient chariot racing site and the city’s premier entertainment venue. During its heyday, up to 150,000 spectators would flock here to watch public games, partake in citywide feasts and to celebrate religious holidays.
Today it’s a public park where visitors can visit some ruins, including pieces of the starting gates and the main track (now covered in grass). The site is most easily reached by foot from Trastevere or the Colosseum, or by taking the metro to the Circus Maximus station and walking.
Hotels near Circus Maximus: We recommend many hotels below that are located in the working-class-turned-hipster neighborhood of Trastevere. Other affordable sleeps can be found in the Colosseo and Monti neighborhood nearby.
