Garden Boutique Hotel

The splurge-worthy Garden Boutique Hotel surely lives up to its name. We hope this is one honeymoon that will never end (at least as long as we can afford it)! The four-star hotel seems plucked from a storybook, offering rooms that are sumptuously decorated and lovingly restored.

Each of the Honigmond Garden’s 60 guest rooms is individually decorated—with flair. In one double, deep red walls and a stained hardwood floor set the stage, accompanied by a cast-iron bed and gold-framed mirror. Another, a charming single, features a lovely carved wooden bed, with matching nightstand, light green walls and a sitting area.

Rooms in the back look out onto a splendid oasis of a garden, sculpted and landscaped to allow maximum peace and quiet. In front-facing rooms you can barely hear the busy Invalidenstrasse bustle outside, thanks to the first-rate soundproofing.

All rooms are equipped with air conditioning, a ceiling fan and a telephone.

Garden Boutique Hotel occupies a meticulously restored building that dates back to 1845. The reception area is artfully done up in "old-village" style, with exposed brick, dark period furniture and flickering candelabras.

The hotel’s sister property, the Honigmond, is equally stunning and was a longtime Cheapo pick. Unfortunately, rates at that property have have risen so much that we can no longer recommend the Honigmond (the Garden Boutique Hotel is already pushing the seams of our “splurge wallet”), however we still have a soft spot for its long history and lavish interiors.

A lovely breakfast is sometimes included in the room rate (check when booking). Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. Note that the hotel does not have an elevator.

Value

With rates starting at €180 for a double, the Garden Boutique Hotel is hardly a cheap hotel, especially in relatively affordable Berlin. However, we list it on EuroCheapo because of all that it provides. Not only is it a special experience if you’re looking to splurge, but its lovely décor, easy location, friendly service and historic factor add up to a solid value.
