Formerly known as the Hostal Avinyo, a EuroCheapo pick, the hostal has been re-christened the Hostal Quartier Gothic. It still offers bare-bones rooms in that same Barri Gothic location, and at rock-bottom rates.
With its high ceilings and bright, spacious rooms, the hotel seems breezy and casual. However, it's totally un-renovated, the bathrooms are a bit small, and nothing, repeat, nothing about the place is fancy.
The hostal is situated on Calle Avinyo, formerly home to brothels and hard living. These days, the streets are lined with boutiques and trendy art students posing for each other. You know if this is your scene or not.
