Hostal San Lorenzo

There are few three-star hostals in Madrid that live up to their star rating. Hotel San Lorenzo, by way of contrast, impresses to the nines with its modern style and bargain rates. The hostal is located in a trendy neighborhood in Chueca, straight off Gran Via.

Rooms are decorated in a gray-and-white color scheme, and some rooms have brick walls for a bit of warmth. Newly tiled, private bathrooms are found throughout. The superior rooms (all of which are exterior) are only a little pricier. For the slightly more expensive nightly rate, you'll be offered more space, and an original stonewall that frames a grand arching window, to boot. Room windows are encased with another set of French doors to block outside street noise and protect the structure's original integrity.

There's a large common lounge with an Internet station and a sunny breakfast nook, though note that breakfast is not included in the nightly rate. There's a bar open 24 hours and room service is also on offer. Cheers to that.
