Hotel Bernardi Semenzato

The Hotel Bernardi Semenzato is a friendly, family-run operation, situated on the border of Cannareggio and San Marco, minutes from the Rialto Bridge. As it’s tucked one block off the main drag, it somehow manages to feel almost hidden. (In other words, you might get lost looking for it.)

The Bernardi’s entrance is packed with artwork and opera posters collected by Maria Teresa and Leonardo, who run the cozy hotel with their son Alessandro. Indeed, art hangs everywhere in the hotel—in the hallways, stairwell, and walls of the guest rooms. Many pieces were donated to the hotel by the owners' talented friends.

The 16 guest rooms are furnished with lovely antiques, and feature parquet floors, gold-framed mirrors and wood-beamed ceilings, and some have Murano glass chandeliers. Twelve of the Bernardi Semenzato’s guest rooms are located one block away in the hotel’s annex. These rooms, also outfitted with classic Venetian furnishings, open to the building’s garden and are quite a bit fancier than those back in the main hotel.

All rooms are equipped with air conditioning, a TV, safe, and phone. Wi-Fi is available near the reception area. Private bathrooms are equipped with showers only (no bathtubs) and a hair dryer.

A small rooftop terrace in the hotel offers postcard-perfect views of the neighborhood and is a perfect spot for a summertime aperitivo (if you’re up for a climb).

Breakfast is sometimes included in the room rate (check when booking). Note that the hotel does not have an elevator.
