Located on the Buda side of the Danube, the three-star Hotel Császár is a swimmer’s (wet) dream. With access to multiple swimming pools, framed photographs of famous Olympic swimmers (some of whom used to train in hotel waters) and reasonable nightly rates, this place is a Cheapo champion.

The hotel’s 45 rooms are basic, featuring plain white duvets and simple wooden furniture. All are equipped with air conditioning and mini-fridge. Bathrooms are tidy and en suite.

The atmosphere of the Császár is that of a friendly country club. Originally a cloister, the hotel courtyard now features a 50-meter swimming pool. The breakfast room, with its tall windows and charming, round tables, resembles a second floor club house overlooking the heart of Olympic training history.

Sound off the starting whistle, because the hotel has a lot of amenities to boot. Not only do the health facilities offer sauna and massage, but the hotel has free parking and free Wi-Fi. Some rooms are wheelchair accessible.

The hotel is just up the street from the Lukács bathhouse, the hotel can be reached with the 91 bus or 17 tram. It's close to the Batthyány tér Metro Stop.

Breakfast is included.

Budapest's Turkish history is most readily apparent in Rózsadomb ("Rose Hill" in English). The area is dotted with Hun- and Turk-era bath houses, like the 19th-century Lukács Baths and the Király bath house, built by the Turks in 1566.

Along the riverfront you'll find Margit Bridge, which leads to the expansive parks of Margit Island, and Gül Baba's Tomb, the burial site of a Bektash dervish and poet. The wide streets down here are lined with clothing shops, grocery stores and cafés, while the steeper parts of the neighborhood maintain a quiet, residential feel.
