Located on a quiet street near the cathedral, the one-star Hotel Europa greets guests with intricate tiling, Andalusian flair and wicker patio furniture. When this 18th-century mansion was turned into a hotel a few decades ago, the owners were careful to leave the building’s Andalusian design intact.

The Europa’s 16 guestrooms are situated off an interior patio that boasts skylights and intricately tiled walls. The rooms themselves are decorated in a simple style, with wooden bed frames, slim desks, golden sconce lights and framed Seville prints. The furniture is nothing special, but tall windows looking onto the cobbled street add some beauty. All rooms are equipped with air conditioning, a television and free Wi-Fi. Some rooms have balconies (ask ahead).

Bathrooms are spotless and covered in beige tiles and light gray marble, with towels to match. All have showers.

The hotel’s stately history is most evident in the common areas. Its original stained-glass and Mudéjar doors have stood the test of time, and hallways are furnished with antiques, like ornate wooden chests and Victorian-era velvet chairs.

The hotel does not serve breakfast, but is surrounded by cafés and restaurants.

There are fewer tourists in El Arenal than in Seville's other central districts, and that's part of the neighborhood's appeal. As one might expect from a less touristy 'hood, this is not the city's most popular zone for nightlife. That said, its a great place to absorb the local vibe, and great cafés and restaurants are abundant.

The neighborhood is the city's bullfighting hub, and La Maestranza, a sizeable bullring, is a main draw. On the edge of El Arenal is the Museo de Bellas Artes.
