Hotel Locanda Salieri

The Hotel Locanda Salieri, located 10 minutes from the train station on the border of Santa Croce and Dorsoduro, is a Cheapo-friendly one-star hotel with a healthy dose of charm. 

Named after the famous 18th-century composer, the Salieri retains a slight "classical" theme, with violins and musical-themed art mixing with some antiques in the hallways. Although the 11 guest rooms may be small, they have a touch of style. You'll be happy to bed down among clean white walls, delicate lace curtains, Oriental rugs and soft-colored comforters.

All rooms are equipped with air conditioning, cable TV, and a telephone. More than half the rooms have a balcony—many overlooking the Canal del Gaffaro. But keep your "cicchetti" cravings under control: It's a tight squeeze through those glass doors to the miniscule, though wholly romantic, balconies. Those not facing the canal overlook a back garden.

The colorfully tiled private bathrooms are small but pristine. All are equipped with a shower and hair dryer.

Breakfast is included in the room rate. Wi-Fi is provided throughout the hotel for free. Note that the hotel does not have an elevator.
