Quick Read
With a vibe akin to grandmother’s house and a location at the heart of Barcelona, it’s no wonder we feel so comfortable at Hotel Pelayo.
The one-star Hotel Pelayo is a popular value hotel with simple rooms dressed in pastels, watercolor paintings and flowers. It feels much like visiting family. Even with its low rates, the guesthouse provides all the amenities you could ask for, such as air conditioning, bathtubs, kettles and free Wi-Fi.
If you book enough in advance, you just might be able to grab one of the rooms with a private patio, a real treat when the weather is nice.
You won’t find breakfast here, unfortunately (it’s the only way the hotel is unlike a trip to Grandma’s), but there are several dining options along the street.
About this listing: EuroCheapo's editors have researched the Hotel Pelayo and have included it in our Barcelona guide based on its location, room rates, services offered, and user reviews.

0.7km to city centerIntriguing, densely populated (but less heavily touristed) El Raval is located to the west of La Rambla. An outskirt and slum for much of its existence (its name comes from arrabal, which means "suburb" or "slum"), El Raval long bore the nickname Barrio Chino. The circus performers, gypsies and prostitutes who once lived here are immortalized on some of Picasso's most famous works from his Blue Period.
Today, the area has largely cleaned up its act, but it still maintains its rough-and-tumble edge and diverse population. And it's home to some of the most interesting spots in the city, including open-air markets, legit old eateries and trendy new bars and cafés. Also here are major cultural institutions like the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA and the Centre de Cultura Contemporània (CCCB), as well as the Maritime Museum and the medieval Hospital de la Santa Creu.
