Offering 11 simple and charming rooms with canal or garden views, this family-run operation is conveniently situated near one of Amsterdam's most popular shopping streets.

The lovely canal house setting offers a vibe that is pure old-world Amsterdam, with narrow staircases, big windows and high ceilings. Rooms vary in size and shape, but all sport dark wood furnishings and many have beamed ceilings.

Rooms are simple and quiet and equipped with a radio and Wi-Fi, however there are no TVs in the hotel. Large windows offering canal views in front and garden views in back easily make up for the lack of a television screen. Just note, one of the rooms in back has a window that opens onto a bare wall, so make sure to request a room with a view.

A breakfast buffet (with meats and cheeses) is available for a fee and served in a charming dining room that’s dominated by a copy of Rembrandt’s “The Night Watch” (or is it a copy?…). There is no elevator, but the friendly staff will help you haul heavy luggage upstairs using a hook and pulley system (that is truly a sight to behold).

1.1km to city center

The most elegant area within the city center, Grachtengordel South (also referred to as the "Southern Canal Ring") features opulent residences, mansion-lined streets and a hot nightlife scene. The area boasts both Rembrandtplein (the city's one-time butter market) and Leidseplein (a former horse and buggy drop-off point). Both squares have been reborn as hot spots for bars, clubs, restaurants and no small number of tourist traps.

Choosing a hotel in the Southern Canal Ring will make things convenient when visiting Amsterdam, as you'll be close enough to the train station, and within an easy walk of most of the city's big sights. You should also consider hotels in the Western Canal Ring (or "Grachtengordel West"), which tends to be quieter.
