Jacobs Inn Dublin

The Jacobs Inn is a mammoth hostel, cramming 420 beds into its 69 rooms. The physical building was constructed recently and was designed expressly to house a hostel. As a result, there are no awkward corners here, and no room conversions that don’t quite work. Location, a stone’s throw from Dublin’s main bus terminal, is an easy 15-minute walk to Temple Bar.

Dorms at the Jacobs Inn sleep between four and 12 people, and private doubles, triples and quads are also available. Rooms may be of the typical bare-bones hostel variety, but they’re very spacious, with large wardrobes and walls painted in a calming, light blue “toothpastey” shade.

Bathrooms here are amazingly nice and contemporary. This last feature is particularly significant, as every bedroom here has its own private bathroom.

The Jacobs Inn offers a dining area, cafeteria and mezzanine TV lounge furnished with comfy couches. Other hostel perks include a well-equipped guest kitchen, pool table, laundry facilities and a variety of social events, from movie nights to pub crawls.

The hostel is nonsmoking throughout. Wi-Fi is free, although it only extends to the lobby and the first floor. There’s also an Internet station in the lobby. A continental breakfast is included in the room rate. There are also conference facilities for guest use.

Located near the Custom House, just north of the Liffey in Dublin's business district, the Jacobs Inn is a five-minute walk to O'Connell Street and a 10-minute walk to Parnell Square or Trinity College. A police station nearby gives hostellers an extra sense of security in an already safe part of Dublin. The hostel is brother property to another EuroCheapo pick, the Isaacs Hostel.
