Originally planted in the 17th century as a medicinal herb garden for the king, the Jardin des Plantes is today home to a number of scientific and educational attractions, including the main botanical gardens and zoo in Paris and the National Museum of Natural History.
The grounds of the Jardin des Plantes are home to over 4500 plant species from all over the world. Divided into various gardens, the Jardin features everything from Alpine flowers to Mexican plants.

Cheap hotels near the Jardin des Plantes: The gardens are located on the eastern edge of the Latin Quarter and a number of cheap hotels can be found a few blocks to the west.
