Cheap hotels near Royal Palace (Koninklijk Paleis) in Amsterdam, Netherlands
The Koninklijk Paleis, or Royal Palace of Amsterdam, is situated on Dam Square in the city’s Old Center.
It’s an impressive structure, characterized by an ornate cupola, and was originally built as the town hall in the 1700’s during the Dutch Golden Age. The building later served as the royal palace and home to King Louis Napoleon (brother of Napoleon Bonaparte).
Today, when the palace is not being used for entertaining by Queen Beatrix, it’s open to the public. Rembrandt’s largest work, “Conspiracy of Claudius Civilis” is on display inside and the main hall, decked out in marble, is worth a look.
