Owned and operated by a Catholic non-profit organization, this guesthouse offers affordable rooms with old-world charm in a fabulous Chelsea location. 

If you don't mind having a few religious icons and paintings as decoration, the Leo House is an excellent option for budget travelers looking to stay somewhere different than a chain hotel. 

Rooms are simple in decor but come with free Wi-Fi and your choice of a private or shared bathroom. The family rooms are a good choice for groups coming to New York, and the single rooms are perfect for solo travelers. When you want to escape the hustle and bustle of city life, take a breather in the peaceful garden. 

With the High Line just down the street and the subway a few steps away, Leo House has a Chelsea location that's hard to beat. It's easy to explore the restaurants, cafes, and bars that keep this neighborhood lively at any time of day or night.

Chelsea

Bordered by the West Village to the south and the Garment District to the north, Chelsea boasts a staggering concentration of art galleries. In addition, it's home to the Dia Center for the Arts and the Joyce Theater—a Mecca for modern dance lovers.

For much of the 1990s and early 2000s, Chelsea was the epicenter of New York's gay scene, although these days much of that scene has moved uptown to Hell's Kitchen. Today Chelsea is simply a comfortable, upscale residential area, characterized by long streets lined with century-old brownstones.

Hotels in Chelsea are somewhat limited, but several small independent properties and guesthouses do offer a chance to sleep in a more residential, yet very central, part of town. The Chelsea Inn and Leo House are two of our favorite budget options with rooms right in the heart of the neighborhood.
