Martin’s Brugge is a sprawling, 177-room chain hotel located right behind the belfry tower at Markt Square. The three-star hotel offers pretty rooms and a level of service and professionalism that goes with such a big operation.

The style both downstairs and in the rooms is modern “boutique.” There are lots of earth tones: beige carpets, purple and red plush furniture, clean and clear wall spaces, flat-paneled TVs and spotlights. Room size varies with type: “Great rooms” offer the most space, with a double sink and a sofa; “charming rooms” are smaller. Bathrooms are standard, with clean tiles, and equipped with bathtubs or showers. 20 rooms face the famous bell tower, although most face the hotel’s enormous landscaped courtyard.

Breakfast is not included, but is offered for the hefty price of €15. (It’s a big spread, however, so you might consider filling up at breakfast and skipping lunch.) An underground parking garage offers convenient parking at a price (€20 per day).

Note: Martin’s is especially popular with tour groups and convention attendees, and thus finding a reasonable rate is easiest during the low season or when there isn’t a convention in town.

Note: This hotel was visited by a EuroCheapo editor and is recommended based on cleanliness, location, price and overall quality. EuroCheapo did not charge this hotel to be listed.

Markt ("Market Square"), Bruges’ central square, is the heart of the town. Even if you don’t stay near the Markt, you’ll most likely spend a good deal of time here. The square is lined with cafes and restaurants, and anchored by the city's famous belfry tower.

One minute to the east is Burg, the town square, home to Bruge's town hall. The area boasts many of the city’s most important museums and historic sights, including the Groeninge and the various Bruggemuseums. Chocolatiers, jewelers, and restaurateurs draw tourists in as well. Markt Square is the place to go if you want to catch a horse-drawn cab, although we can't promise that the ride will be cheap.
