Motel One München Sendlinger Tor

We’ve fallen for the trendy, yet Cheapo, Motel One chain, and this Sendlinger Tor location is no exception. Sporting snappy turquoise-and-black rooms that go for as low as €100, this hotel offers an impressive value and a cool, well-designed experience.

First, a few words of explanation for those not familiar with the budget-friendly Motel One chain. The hotels, which are popping up all over Germany and neighboring countries, offer rooms with style at one low rate year-round, thus bucking the industry-wide trend of changing rates on a daily basis. 

As for the hotel’s 241 rooms, they’re trendy little things, dressed up in the hotel’s ubiquitous teal-and-black color scheme, and equipped with air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TV (showing, upon entry, a roaring fireplace in winter or an aquarium in summer), and a small desk and chair. Rooms either look out to the relatively calm street or onto a back garden.

All rooms are equipped with a private bath, each with a decent-size shower (with rainshower head), mosaic tiling, and a hairdryer. At 16 meters square, neither the bathroom nor the bedroom are spacious, but they don’t feel particularly cramped, either.

Meanwhile, downstairs, the ground floor offers a large Munich-themed bar and cafe, which doubles as a busy breakfast area (a breakfast buffet is offered for an extra charge). Remixed lounge music floats through the space all afternoon as guests enjoy coffee or cocktails.

One warning: With these rates, this hotel is hardly a secret. If you’re planning to come, book well in advance as it almost always sells out.
