With a location in the Old Center, close to Amsterdam’s Red Light District, the Nieuwmarkt is a popular public square and marketplace. The Nieuwmarkt is best known for De Waag, an iconic structure that once served as a town gate, then a weigh house and is today a swanky restaurant and bar.
The square is surrounded by coffee shops and restaurants, and a market is set up most days. Organic food vendors set out their wares on Saturdays, while an antiques and book fair takes place on Sundays.
