Situated in a quiet courtyard off the busy Via Cavour and a short walk from the Forum and Colosseum, the Hotel Rosetta offers 10 cheapo rooms and a family-run atmosphere.

We very much enjoyed our recent visit to the Rosetta, once we found it. You enter into an apartment building off of bustling Via Cavour, where you'll find a sign directing you up a flight of stairs to the pension's newly remodeled reception area. There, you’ll most likely be greeted by a member of the friendly family that runs the Rosetta, and who keeps it clean, comfy and cheap.

The hotel’s one-star rooms are honest in their simplicity: cream walls, tiled floors and modern furniture (although restored crown moldings are a nice touch). All rooms are equipped with air conditioning, a telephone and TV. Almost all rooms overlook the small side streets, while one looks over busy Via Cavour. (Note, however, that in this busy part of town rooms may still pick up street noise—bring earplugs.)

All rooms have clean private bathrooms with peachy mosaic tiling, all of which are equipped with showers (no tubs) and toiletries.

The cozy reception area offers free Wi-Fi, a TV and vending machine. Note that Wi-Fi reaches some, but not all of the rooms. (If this is important to you, ask when reserving for a room with Wi-Fi.)

The hotel is within easy walking distance from the Colosseum, and the historic center is a 20-minute walk (or a five-minute bus ride) away.

The Monti neighborhood feature some of Rome's cutest winding, hilly streets. It's chockablock full of great little hidden-away bars and restaurants. In parts it's quite stylish, though the area is best known for its boho, artsy independent shops and galleries. The area's Via Serpenti is the best spot for ethnic cuisine. Cavour is the closest Metro station.

The neighborhood boasts some of Rome's most famous landmarks, churches and ruins, including the Colosseum, Trajan's Market and parts of the Roman Forum.
