Established in 1450, the University of Barcelona enrolls about 90,000 students and is recognized as one of the best university’s in Spain. It is the fifth-oldest university in the country.
The neoclassical buildings surround the Plaça de la Universitat in the Raval neighborhood were constructed in the 1860s and today mostly serve as administrative offices. All is not lost, however: Check out the student cafeteria in the building’s basement for a cheapo meal.
