Cheap hotels near Place de la Concorde in Paris, France
Centrally located between the Jardin du Tuileries and the start of the Champs-Élysées, the Place de la Concorde, with its obelisk and two large fountains, is the city's largest square. It's both a major traffic artery and a place of historical merit.
It was here, between 1793-1795, that revolutionaries constructed their largest guillotine and killed more than 1,300 people, chief among them King Louis XVI and his wife Marie Antoinette. An obelisk, brought from the Temple of Ramses at Luxor in 1831, today marks the spot of the bloody activity.
Today traffic streams into the square (or circle, to be more exact) from several directions, making for a noisy and chaotic scene. Pedestrians take note: Walk your way around the place and follow traffic signals.
Hotels near the Place de la Concorde: The area immediately surrounding the square is either garden, bridge, river, or really pricey. There are, however, some affordable hotels to be found just north of the Louvre, and others south of the Seine in St. Germain des Pres.
