Cheap hotels near Pont Neuf in Paris, France
The Pont Neuf (“new bridge”) is, ironically, the oldest standing bridge in Paris. The Pont Neuf crosses the Seine river at the western edge of the Île de la Cité, once the heart of medieval Paris. From here, the bridge extends to join up with the Right Bank.
Back in the day, you would have seen horse-drawn carriages rambling across the pont alongside pedestrians, and for years it was the widest bridge in Paris. For centuries, it was the most important crossing in Paris and was a center for town life.
Designed as a series of stone archways, construction began on the bridge in 1578 (under King Henry III) and was completed in 1607. The bridge was even equipped with its own gallows at one time. As you cross the bridge today onto the Île de la Cité, take a minute to pause in front of the plaque marking where Jacques de Molay, a “Grand Master” of the Knights Templar, was burned at the stake.
Hotels near Pont Neuf: Staying in a hotel anywhere around the Pont Neuf will obviously put you in the very heart of Paris. As the bridge crosses the tip of the Ile de la Cite, there aren’t a lot of hotels directly around the bridge (with the notable exception of the Henri IV, below).
However, we’ve reviewed lots of cheap sleeps in the many neighborhoods around the Pont Neuf. A hotel “Near the Louvre” means proximity to the city’s most famous museum, and the pont neuf is a quick walk away. The nearby Latin Quarter and St. Germain des Pres neighborhoods are also some of the most popular for tourists in the city, and thankfully, boast some great reasonably priced one- and two-star hotels.
