St. Peter’s Basilica is the centerpiece of the Vatican City and of the Catholic Church, and one of the city’s top attractions, drawing nearly 20,000 visitors a day.
St. Peter’s is open year-round and free to visit, April through September from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and from October through March from 7 p.m. to 6 p.m. Masses are held daily. For great views over Rome, climb to the top of St. Peter’s. It’s €7 to take an elevator or €6 to climb the 320 steps.
