For decades, Eurail passes have been making train travel affordable for residents of countries outside Europe. With a Eurail pass, you can take as many train trips as you wish inside your restricted area (which can be all 18 countries or smaller group of countries) for as long as your pass is valid.
Tourists benefit from Eurail passes because they simplify the train travelling process and can lower your costs significantly.
Should you buy a Eurail pass?
It depends on your travel plans. If you intend to really hop around the continent, you could find huge savings. Conversely, if you plan to make just one or two trips between major cities, you might find point-to-point rail tickets to be cheaper.
For really moving around Europe, consider a consecutive-day Eurail pass. For long-distance trips on selected days, consider flexible travel passes. And for multiple trips within a country (or neighboring countries), consider national and regional passes (see list at bottom of page).
Where are Eurail passes valid?
Standard Eurail passes are valid in 21 countries: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. Some versions of the pass extend into Bulgaria and Serbia & Montenegro (counted as one country).

Eurailpasses fall into two types: consecutive day passes and flexible travel passes.
